Currently serving as a state general jurisdiction judge in Lincoln and Uinta Counties. A past member of the Board of Governors of the American Bar Association. Elected to the American Law Institute. Past president of the Wyoming State Bar. Served as a member of the Board of Professional Responsibility of the Wyoming State Bar and as a member of the American Bar Association Standing Committee on Professional Discipline. Joe represented Wyoming as its State Delegate to the American Bar Association House of Delegates and before doing that was the Wyoming State Bar Delegate to the American Bar Association House of Delegates.Joe also served as a trustee of the Wyoming State Retirement system. Before being appointed to serve on the retirement board, he served as a board member to the Wyoming Community Development Authority.Before taking the bench: Operated a solo practice in southwest Wyoming providing representation in litigation and general legal matters.
