New Ventures BC (NVBC) is a BCAN network Accelerator based in Vancouver, BC. Starting in 2003, Joseph became a volunteer Mentor with the New Ventures Business Competition and, in mid-2014, NVBC recruited him as its Founding EiR for its successful Accelerator programs. He was a significant contributor to the development of the five modules of content comprising the Online Market Validation Program (funded by Innovate BC, and administered by NVBC). The Online MVT was the content cornerstone for both NVBC's in-person, cohort-based Accelerator program (developed by Joseph), and NVBC's follow-on virtual, distance-delivery Accelerator program. As a NVBC EiR, Joseph worked directly with 90 early-stage ventures.

Over the course of Joseph's career he has been personally involved in founding several tech-based start-ups including: an in-ceiling radiant heat OEM (BC - private); a cell phone rental firm (Canada and the US - private); a fertilizer component producer, using a proprietary closed-system food waste composting process (Canada and US - public), and; a specialty ISP which installed and serviced WiFi networks serving the Internet access needs of business travelers in hotel properties (BC - private).

Co-founder, director, and CFO of a publicly-listed corporate training firm that established and operated a franchise network in Canada and the US. Directed all corporate finance activities, which raised almost $2 million through three separate private placements and an IPO. Prepared US Federal and State and Provincial franchise filings, and secured necessary US and Canadian franchise clearances. Assisted in the franchise marketing activities, which sold over 30 franchises; managed the production of Achievers magazine, and; assisted in initial and ongoing franchisee training.

Enabled the rapid-growth of a specialty retailer providing video rental services serving North American convenience store chains. In just two years, this private company raised and invested US $75 million in its business, hired over 400 employees, opened five regional distribution centres, and expanded to service over 3500 convenience store outlets across North America. In the midst of this growth, my responsibilities included – directing all financial reporting activities supporting two mergers, negotiation of a US $45 million bank line, and completion of two private debt placements; managing accounts receivable functions that grew to process upwards of 1 million transactions per week while individually tracking 1.2 million video cassettes; managing accounts payable and payroll; defining, staffing and computerising the financial management function across all activities and regions, and; building a professional team of 40 employees providing all financial management functions.

Joined the Price Waterhouse consulting practice in Vancouver and undertook a wide range of business and financial management consulting assignments in the Yukon, British Columbia, and California. Significant C-level client secondment work involved operational responsibilities with a men's suit manufacturer and a land development company.
