Previous experience includes enlistment in the United States Air Force from 2001 to 2005. My specialty was in communications and computer systems. I was granted a Top Secret-SCI security clearance and worked with sensitive information. I was also part of the Theatre Deployable Communications team, also known as the TDC Package. This team was responsible for setting up initial communications at forward deployed locations. It was during this time that I learned the work ethic needed to be successful and uncovered my passion for public service. With the birth of my first (of three) children I found that my role in public service was not within the active duty ranks, but my call to service followed me upon returning home. My return to pursue my education brought along many challenges and opportunities. Adjusting to the classroom was difficult, but I also found myself trying out new things as well. In 2009 I founded a Veterans Student Organization at my college, and served as a member of the Associated Students Union as a Senator, VP and President in 2010. For my work I was awarded a Koshland Fellowship in 2011 for civic unity, a program of the San Francisco Foundation. This was a special award that meant a lot as it was in recognition of my path towards personal rediscovery. In May, 2013, I graduated from San Francisco State University with a degree in Political Science and History. I was also awarded Veteran of the Year honors by California State Assemblymember Nancy Skinner. I am currently working as a Resource Specialist for the Gateway to College program at a community college in the San Francisco Bay Area. I manage a case load of students, instruct a course for them each day, and advise them in reaching their educational goals.

I have played the saxophone since I was in the 7th grade. I currently play (primarily) salsa with Orquesta Borinquen and Taino Salsa Orchestra. I also play part time with funk bands GTS and Natural Impulse. I have been fortunate enough to travel with international recording artists on the west coast and throughout California. I am always interested in getting work, let me know if you need a Baritone/Tenor saxophonist!
At Contra Costa College I served as a student leader in government. I was the Senator for Veterans Affairs, Vice President of Clubs and Associated Students Union President. In these roles I worked towards creating accountability in all levels of shared governance on campus and elevated the status of student government as an institution. I focused on recruitment and sustainability in the organization, and worked towards student retention and equity on campus. Two of my projects included addressing the "Achievement Gap" and Veterans issues on campus. I presided over Senate and campus meetings/committees and served as the student representative and liaison to organizations throughout California and to national organizations in education and student advocacy.
Worked as an IT Support/Desktop Support Technician.
Worked in the Network Operations Center, Email team, File Server Team, Help Desk and as part of the mobile communications team. Without spelling out every single duty I held, I was a computer/IT person for the Air Force. I held a Top-Secret SCI security clearance.
