LIFE IS NOT A PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED,but a reality to be experienced.― Soren KierkegaardMy cousin sat me down one day to talk through concerns she had communicating with her mother, my aunt. I listened, with a mixture of curiosity and apprehension, as my cousin, my closest friend at the time, described to me a scenario the likes of which I had never encountered before. I wanted desperately to be what they needed in that moment, and could only offer my attention and a will to understand. The conversation ended, and I heard “Thank you”. I experienced a “cold” rush down my spine, and with it, a profound sense of joy. Since then, I became fascinated with psychotherapy, and began exploring avenues that would enhance my counselling skills. My passion lead me through my education at Western University. Here, I was provided the resources needed to find the therapist I wanted to be. Through trials and tribulations, I discovered the healing powers of active listening, empathic understanding, and warmth, both as someone requesting and providing support. And it was here that I learned how to practice mindfulness, accept my thoughts and emotions, and connect with my values - skills that I would pass on to the people I work with to foster meaningful experiences. Now, as a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), my interest in growth and development remains with me.Feel free to reach out if you wish to chat: I enjoy meeting new people and learning about their experiences and perspectives.
