– Developed artificial neural network training algorithms to model transcription factor binding sites∗ The goal of this project was to address the inability of contemporary training algorithms to correctly train artificial neural networks to correctly search for transcription factor binding sites in genomic backgrounds. The primary focus of this project was the creation and development of new training algorithms.– Created an evolutionary simulator to study the evolution of transcriptional regulatory networks∗ The goal of this project was to explore the mechanics of trancriptional regulatory networks by simulating their evolution. To accomplish this a simulation software package, with a genetic algorithm backbone, was implemented in parallel to explore the evolution of regulatory networks.– Characterization of the human gut microbiome SOS DNA damage response∗ The goal of this project was to utilize a metagenomic approach to explore the SOS response in human gut flora. The underlying motivation is that human gut flora are exposed to the same drugs and environment as pathogens are. As such this analysis may elucidate key elements of the SOS reponse that have previously gone undetected.– Developed a database and submission system for annotating transcription factor binding sites in prokaryotes∗ The goal of this project is to address the poor data availability of transcription factor binding site data by creating a system that will allow for the deep curation of primary research literature. With the end goal of creating a system that is viable in the long term by forming an open submission system for the curation of NCBI third pary annotations of genomic sequence data.– In leadership role over several junior undergraduate researchers in the lab∗ Directed and managed student’s work on both a long-term and day to day basis

Worked on synthesizing a multi-agent dendrimerized gold nanoparticlenanovectors∗ The goal of this research was to synthesize a gold nanoparticle based drug delivery system that would improve treatment efficacy of current chemotheraputics by providing precision delivery, increasing delivered doses and reducing side effects. This vector system was designed to carry multiple agents simultaneously allowing multiple chemotheraputics as well as imaging and targeting compounds to be delivered on target.

Participated as a volunteer at the Shriver Center service learning site MS Swim. MS Swim is aprogram designed to provide basic physical therapy to victims of Multiple Sclerosis. Asvolunteer I was present at at least one of the bi-weekly meetings of the program andparticipated in providing the therapy
