My PhD research focused on the swimming behavior of Helicobacter Pylori and how cell morphology influences swimming in various viscous solutions.Responsibilities:- Design and complete experiments that measure the swimming behavior of Helicobacter Pylori with the aim of understanding how cell shape and flagella influence motility - Use hydrodynamic models to predict the effect cell shape and flagella have on swimming speed- Examine and characterize the chemotactic behavior of the bacteria - General lab managementAccomplishments:- Used light microscopy to studied several strains and shape/flagella mutants of Helicobacter Pylori to study shape and flagella effect swimming effects- Wrote code to segment bacterial trajectories based on swimming characteristics- Designed and coded a resistive force theory model that predicts the effect of a helical cell shape and flagella on swimming speed

Co-taught a short course on numeracy to incoming freshmen STEM undergraduates.Responsibilities: - Develop course material including worksheets and presentations on numeracy- Co-teach classes and facilitated student peer discussionAccomplishments: - Taught students how to use and understand numbers by having them solve estimation/fermi problems- Successful taught the course for two summers
