About Josephine Fields
I am a first-generation college student passionate about rural education and literacy both in and beyond Appalachia. While I absolutely loved my rural upbringing, I am acutely aware of the inequities within rural education, especially those that exist for low-income/working class communities.I am now a student at Boston College's Lynch School of Education and Human Development studying Transformative Educational Studies and Elementary Education. As I often remind myself, "I had to leave my community in order to give back to my community." Teaching is my passion, and I am specifically interested in actively challenging classroom, political, social, and cultural norms to cultivate a more equitable educational sphere for rural students. I am especially interested in the intersections of class, gender, and race in literacy education throughout rural communities.
