Hi, I'm Joe. I completed my master's degree in Chemistry in 2017 at Manchester Metropolitan University, and subsequently moved to Maastricht, the Netherlands, where I then completed my PhD in chemistry in 2021. My PhD focused on the development of Molecularly Imprinted Polymers (MIPs) for the detection of small molecules (e.g. antibiotics, illicit compounds, and biomolecules), in which I tackled the synthesis, development and application of these incredible synthetic receptors. Since completing my PhD, I have begun a postdoctoral position in the Sensor Engineering Department at Maastricht University, where I use my knowledge in MIP based sensors to develop sensory platforms for the detection of vitamins aimed at the rapid analysis of vegetables/fruits.In the past 5 years I have published over 15 publications on various aspects of MIPs, including their design, development, synthesis and application. However, my skill base extends far beyond this niche, with my publications also including machine learning, and the development of a charge transfer complex aimed at the rapid detection of phosphate. In 2022 I also applied for my first patent on a specific sensing technology (patent pending), demonstrating my ambition to advance developments from the labs into commercially available technologies.My other research interests include: The synthesis of novel molecules, polymers, conjugated polymers, hydrogels, electrochemistry, electrochemical impedance... and more.
