As a Planner, I am responsible for planning maintenance jobs and projects to be executed safely, effectively, and efficiently. This entails determining the required resources and making them readily available. For successful planning, coordinating with teams of multiple disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, and infrastructure to determine priorities is most important. All jobs within 7 days from today are to be planned and scheduled. All jobs 8 days and beyond are to be planned and ready to schedule or have plans in progress. A secondary duty is to provide break-down support. This usually includes sourcing parts, services, and tools for immediate availability.

Our team specializes in the engineering and architecture of commercial buildings focusing on schools, hospitals, arenas and border crossings. I play my part in the mechanical engineering design team by designing and drafting, via Revit and AutoCAD, mechanical systems including HVAC, hot water heating, domestic hot and cold water piping, underground sanitary piping, storm water management, natural gas and compressed gas piping. Our goal is to implement the most efficient building mechanical systems to minimize cost and carbon footprint.

Working as a field technician enlightens the importance of project management and coordination. Implementing geoexchange systems exclusively on new, high-rise developments enables the honing of these skills as well as communication skills as several contractors must work as a team to complete the project. My position focuses on pipe fusion. Pipe fusion requires patience, thoroughness, and intuitiveness. Other responsibilities include manifold building and installation, pressure testing, flushing and filling of geoexchange.

My primary responsibility was to model and draft via SolidWorks and AutoCAD, respectively. I was involved in several projects but was focused on one: a mechanical device that helps prevent downtime in the mill. Being a part of a maintenance engineering team has helped me understand the value of quick problem solving. When machinery broke down, it was the responsibility of the maintenance engineering team to understand the entirety of the problem. The faster the problem was understood, the faster an effective and efficient solution could be implemented.

While working with Algoma Steel as a summer student I was exposed to inventory management, quality control and export services. I worked in an industrial setting practicing safe work as the number one priority. Because of the high injury potential, communication among colleagues could not be neglected. This instilled clear and concise communication skills among the team. The fast pace environment taught the value of adaptability and efficiency.

During my time, I learned how to design, install, and troubleshoot irrigation systems for both residential and commercial use. Because I was a part of a small team, we had to prioritize organization and time management as we had hundreds of clients city-wide.

Mowing lawns was my primary duty but customer interaction was just as relevant. I cared for lawns of those who couldn’t care for them themselves due to physical challenges. These daily, personal interactions with clients enabled me to build my interpersonal skills.

Being a supervisor honored me with great responsibility. Customer satisfaction and employee productivity were my main duties. Other duties included opening and closing, managing inventory, scheduling shifts, signing for deliveries and most importantly ensuring cleanliness and promoting a healthy and safe team environment. Because of the vast amount of responsibilities, efficiency, time management and organization were to never be compromised. I enjoyed the challenge and seldomly did conflict occur.

Toyota is the busiest dealership in the city. Though my title was detailer, I moved from departments daily to help with the workload. Customer interaction was a large portion of the job description and because of the volume, communication skills were honed.

Throughout my time with McDonald's, I encouraged teamwork and promoted the importance of customer satisfaction. As a crew trainer, providing constructive criticism was the primary responsibility. My secondary responsibility was to be a role model for the other employees.
