Skills: ReactJS, JavaScript, Typescript, HTML, CSS, SASS, Redux, Context API, React Query, Axios, REST APIs, Cypress, Jest, React Testing Library, Enzyme, AWS S3, JIRA, Splunk, ServiceNow, Git, GitLab, Generative AI (GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Gemeni)I'm a seasoned Payments Tech UI Tech Lead with a passion for building robust web applications, solving problems, mentoring, and creating fun & safe environments for teammates to flourish in.Currently, I'm leading the charge on modernizing highly-complex money movement applications including Domestic and International Wire transfers. Teamwork, organization, and attention to details are key as I've led UI teams of up to 8 developers to deliver on quarterly commitments. Communication is equally essential as I regularly collaborate with business partners, QA, designers, and backend teams to keep deliverables on track. From feature analysis and estimation to code reviews and deployments, I'm involved in every step of the process. When developing, I'm always looking for ways to improve efficiency and code quality, and AI tools like GitHub's Co-Pilot and automation tests with Cypress help achieve that. My work has significantly saved us money i.e. migrating from a $3000/mo classic payment api to a $300/mo modern api. I’ve also help to reduce phone rep call times by adding features such as voice playback for disclosures to prevent phone steps from having to verbally read lengthy disclosures on each call. When it comes to running the business, I’ve performed critical exercises including disaster recovery testing to ensure that our UI applications remain active after moving from one AWS region to another and that our databases remain active after failing over from one data center to another. Beyond the technical work, I've also been recognized for my engaging presentations which provide valuable demonstrations of completed features in a way that everyone can understand while keeping it engaging and fun.I am passionate about raising awareness about my beautiful culture, and my role and a core team member and treasurer of PEAK (USAA's African American diversity business group) enables me to do so. I also believe in lifting as we climb, and co-organizing the monthly ReactJS Dallas meetup provides that opportunity to help developers grow in their careers the way that many have help me over the years. When I’m not on the clock, I like to spend time with my wife and daughters and well as serve at church.

Fittr.Us - Fitness Tracker Web ApplicationDevmountain Student Developers Dec 2017 - Jan 2018Provo, Utah, UsFittr.us - Finess-Tracker Web AppURL: fittr.usGitHub repo: https://github.com/FitTracker/Fitness-Goal-TrackerBuilt with: React, Node, Express, and SQLFittr.us was created out of our team's love for fitness and desire to put useful data and features all in one place. Fittr.us syncs with Fitbit to import and visualize data based on the user's goals. We also implemented a friend system along with a badging system. Timer and stopwatch features are both available too for real-time usage during workouts. On this project, I spearheaded the front-end, designing the app and building the timer and stopwatch using the following tools: • SCSS, Material-UI, flexbox, and media queries for layouts, colors, and mobile responsiveness. • Moment.js and setIntervals to build stopwatch and timer features• React.js to build components with functionalityFor the backend, we used Node and Express along with a SQL database. This was a fun and challenging project as we were forced to function as a single unit, plan together, use Git & GitHub effectively, and quickly figure out how to do new things. -
Barely Teaching - Teacher Productivity Web ApplicationDevmountain Student Developers Nov 2017 - Nov 2017Provo, Utah, UsBarely Teaching - Teacher Productivity Web AppURL: https://barely-teaching-app.herokuapp.comGitHub repo: https://github.com/MightyJoeW/barely-teaching-appBuilt with: React, Node, Express, and Firebase• React.js with Redux for managing state• Firebase for login and student reports • Local storage for tasks and voice memos• SCSS and Material-UI for styling • Flexbox and media queries for mobile responsivenessBarely Teaching began as a passion project to help out my wife and her fellow teachers. I initially envisioned creating an app for jaded teachers since I was hearing the negative side of teaching occasionally. Listening to different teacher pain points, I wanted to created an app that would not only help with organization but also provide a place for teachers to vent (hence the voice memos feature). After hearing one of the teachers voice a desire for a hassle-free way to keep track of behavior reports for their students, I spent the next couple of days creating the Reports page which allows a user to create a behavior report. Each report is saved to the database in the backend (displaying the reports in a table format to the user on the front-end).Last but not least, the Tasks page is a task list including a button that randomly selects a task. I describe this to users as a fun way to randomly decide which task to start on (hoping that you get the easiest one first).I had a lot of fun working on Barely Teaching, and I look forward to adding more useful and humorous features for teachers to enjoy. -
