The duties of this project role included the preliminary information gathering and initial design consultancy for a complete building modernisation. The accelerated development timeframe meant all four of our team running parallel tasks to allow for the most design bandwidth. The design combined multiple research elements to deliver a world class integrated collaboration centre. Challenges included locating data centre space for all back end switching equipment and negotiating storage space in the heavily congested Rubislaw building. The entire 10 million pound refit had to complete in 13 weeks including all technology commissioning and testing.

This role carried some hands-on duties similar to the previous support position (below) for both training and overly intricate problem resolution. Responsibilities for data centre access control for contractors and new staff were monitored/delegated. Continuous reviews were conducted to improve equipment and process safety in daily operations.Weekly presentational events of companywide seminars were organised and recorded. Some data destruction spot checks were carried out as required.

This contract position delivered local and global leveraged infrastructure services to the Aberdeen E&P UK business as well as support to parallel global infrastructure teams. The daily operations mainly cover desk-side and network support but also carry many compliance responsibilities. Good communication and demonstrative abilities are essential to maintain a good rapport with customers and colleagues. Maintaining composure under pressure to deliver project goals and constant service improvements is difficult but extremely rewarding at the same time. Some fill-in duties are carried out whilst awaiting appointment of a new supervisor. Co-ordination of ad-hoc tasks, meetings and general administration was also required whilst acting as interim team-lead.Emergency Response duties included ‘communications unit leader’ cover, which provides 24/7 call-out support and office-hours system testing & documentation to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley 404 retention legislation.
