Profile bio

About Joseph Samas

I am a second-year undergraduate student studying business management at the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. When I am not studying, I spend an ample amount of time training for the Little 500 race with my bike team, Chi Alpha. The Little 500 is an annual intramural bike race held at Indiana University that has significantly contributed to my personal growth. Being involved in it has strengthened my character, constantly reminding me of how hard work propels individuals and teams toward success. I also get to work with a team the entire year, preparing me for future roles in my career where my skills of keeping myself and others accountable will be put to the test. This sport tests my adaptability as I navigate different training schedules and coordinate with teammates, requiring me to adjust to unexpected challenges.I have spent my past three summers working labor jobs outside, two at a local country club working groundskeeping, and one with a maintenance company working landscaping. These jobs require hard work and accountability, two skills constantly being sharpened by my bike career. I have also worked customer service jobs in high school, spending most of my time working at Bryles Research, a product research company. My responsibilities at this job included conducting a large group of people through surveys of unreleased products being tested. This job gave me a taste of what is needed in a position of leadership and showed me the importance my voice has. Handling situations with dissatisfied customers taught me the significance of emotional control and the understanding that not every customer or client will be willing to collaborate. In the future, I desire a career where working with a team is necessary. I believe I am prepared to be both a good teammate and a good leader if the opportunity presents itself. I understand the skills needed individually for a team to succeed and how to work well with others so the team may succeed together.
