About Joseph Sweatt

Hello! My name is Joseph Sweatt Jr. I am a mechanical engineer student with an adamant fascination for hydrogen engine mechanics and additive manufacturing. I possess ample experience in robotics, 3D manufacturing and leadership.Currently attending the Henry Samueli School of Engineering at the University of California- Irvine and developing my personal research in additive manufacturing and hydrogen cell application. I have started Black Swan, a small start-up project with some close peers and myself. We are developing prototyping and personal projects, especially in the field of additive manufacturing. These skills transfer over as I attempt to mentor and underrepresent children- through NSBE's SEEK program. Teaching about Stem fields and the impact engineering has daily to students worldwide. I hope to continue my journey and grow my technical prowess to further my career and aspirations.

    This three-week summer program was an opportunity to be a virtual facilitator and remotely create an engaging educational experience for students in grades 3–5. The SEEK program aims to provide high-quality learning opportunities to underrepresented students who otherwise may not have access to a robust STEM education. During the summer, I instructed in topics of engineering's role in social justice, computer coding, robotics, and engineering practices. Connecting to students around the country while remote.This experience presented a challenge to grow from, especially in the ways I communicate, interact with students, and foster a community. I would even learn to better rely on and help my teammates. Overall, I am grateful for the experience and look forward to doing the program again.
