Designed Superconducting Tunnel Junction (STJ) detectors for Phase-IV of the Berylium Electron capture in Superconducting Tunnel junction (BeEST) Experiment. Researching under Dr. Kyle Leach, I redesigned the Phase-III detector chips to mitigate resistive crosstalk amongst Individual STJs.The search for sterile neutrinos is among the brightest possibilities in our quest for BSM physics. Sterile neutrinos---unlike the active neutrinos in the Standard Model of particle physics---do not interact with normal matter as they move through space, and as such must be observed via their mass--generated effects that result from momentum conservation with SM particles. We can observe these momentum recoil effects experimentally through high--precision measurements of EC nuclear decay using superconducting tunnel junctions (STJs). Phase--III of The BeEST experiment found systematic discrepancies between STJ quadrants. This is believed to be caused by resistive crosstalk of the shared ground wires during simultaneous STJ events, which occur upon calibration. Here, we demonstrate a novel redesign of our detectors in which each STJ is independently grounded. We expect calibration discrepancies between STJs in phase-IV of the BeEST experiment to be significantly mitigated from their Phase-III results.

I was part of the first group of officers for this club and was instrumental in establishing this club as an official organization with SAIL. I also served as the council's first President. The Colorado School of Mines Philharmonic Orchestra Council exists to facilitate a sense of community with the larger Colorado School of Mines Philharmonic Orchestra body. The Council’s main initiatives are to increase interest and involvement in the orchestra around Mines, provide support for administrative tasks, and create community outreach programs within Golden and its surrounding areas.

The SuperCDMS HVeV is a 2-channel, TES-based detector that aims to use electron recoil within carbon-based substrates to detect particle-like dark matter. Previous research into particle-like dark-matter detection, mainly the search of WIMPs, has narrowed the search to low energy parameter regimes with interaction events on the order of single electron volts. This requires the detectors to be very sensitive and all components of the system must be tested and constructed to the required specifications. At SLAC, I helped improve upon the passivation process of HPNO Copper used in the detector housings, mount SQUID boards in the dilution refrigerator, probe DCRC interface board pinouts before cooldown, and tune V-Φ curves of SQUIDs. Additionally, using machine vision and OpenCV, I began the development of a Python-based program to automate the placement process for our detector samples into their housings and incorporated new hardware allowing for a transition from an RPI to a PC-based system.
