Winberry is a community-minded information professional whose information sciences education and 5+ years of public administration experience informs his efforts to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Select academic accomplishments include:-Won the 2023 Chancellor's Award from the University of Tennessee for his work as a student leader around LGBT+ issues. This award recognizes, among other accomplishments, his dissertation which used a community-based participatory research methodology to bring LGBT+ older people and community organizations around meeting the needs of LGBT+ people fifty years and older around aging issues. Partnership with the Knox County Office on Aging continues around this work. -Received the Gary R. Purcell Award in 2019, which the faculty present to a student who "shows unusual promise as a leader in the field of information sciences, in research and innovation, intellectual activity and creativity and management. It is an award for overall excellence rather than excellence in any one particular area alone."-Awarded Best Student Paper in 2019 for "Shades of Silver: Applying the Strategic Diversity Manifesto to Tennessee’s Knox County Office on Aging" published in The International Journal of Information, Diversity, & Inclusion. -Named winner of the Best Master's Student Presentation Contest at the 42th annual UTK College of Communications and Information Research Symposium in 2020 for presenting on a series of articles I have written or co-written related to the topic, "The Information Society is Also an Aging Society."Select professional & volunteer accomplishments include:-Wrote multiple successful grants providing nearly $500,000 in funds to non-profit organizations that serve disaster and elder abuse victims. -Managed complex, $350,000 federal grant with training, coordinated community response, and victim services for elder abuse response. -Named 2018 Area Director of the Year for District 63 of Toastmasters International in recognition of leading 4 Toastmasters public speaking and leadership development clubs to president's distinguished.
