JOSÉ VICENTE CAIXETA FILHO: born in 1962, he is a Civil Engineer from the University of São Paulo (Brazil, 1984); got his Master´s in Economics from the University of New England (Australia, 1989); has become a Doctor in Engineering by University of São Paulo (Brazil, 1993); took Post-Doctoral Studies at Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (Germany, 1994) and at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign (United States, 2017). He is currently a Full Professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics at the “Luiz de Queiroz” Agriculture School at University of São Paulo, Brazil, where he teaches courses in the fields of Applied Mathematics, Logistics and Operations Research. He was also the Dean of that School from 2011 to 2015. He is the founder and coordinator of ESALQ-LOG (Group of Research and Extension in Agroindustrial Logistics). His main areas of research are agroindustrial logistics (transportation and storage problems, mostly), through the development of applications of Operations Research (mathematical programming – linear, integer and non-linear; simulation; decision analysis), under the agricultural production and agricultural post-harvesting environments. He has received several prestigious awards during his career, including the “Franz Edelman Award” (“Honorable Mention” given in 2001 by INFORMS - Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences) in the US and the prize “Life and Work” for “Transportation Infrastrucure”, given in 2016 by Bunge Foundation in Brazil. He is retired from ESALQ/USP in 2022 and currently he is teaching in University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
