I am a South African qualified attorney and focus on corporate, commercial and technology law. I have extensive experience in drafting and negotiating a wide range of complex international IT, software, cloud computing and e-commerce agreements. My experience also includes numerous corporate transactions for privately held companies and have 10 years' experience in venture capital transactions. I served for almost a decade as external legal counsel for Mxit, a social media platform that was at the time bigger than Facebook in South Africa. I effectively fulfilled the role of their general counsel.From their early days I have advised Capitec Bank during their rapid growth phase while they became the largest (by customers) retail bank in South Africa. Although I was acting during this period as an external lawyer I worked closely with the executive management and their newly established legal and compliance teams. My privacy and data protection experience stretches back to the early 2000s when I worked with Allen & Overy and Deloitte. I have since helped companies with strategic legal advice on their approach to privacy and data protection laws. I have implemented data protection management frameworks and successfully advised clients dealing with data breaches. I have extensive experience with POPI (POPIA) and the GDPR.I have drafted and negotiated numerous international commercial contracts and have dealt with counterparties based in foreign jurisdictions. I am familiar with international and EU legal instruments relevant to international commercial agreements.I have experience working with CEO's, CFO's and executive management, and with sales teams, product teams, operational teams, risk management and information technology departments. I have previously established and managed teams consisting of lawyers, researchers, consultants and support staff.
