After graduating from Staffordshire University with first-class honours in Biology, I worked as a Microbiology laboratory technician at Intertek. Here I was involved in the preparation and analysis of samples for quality assurance purposes. After a year within this industry, I enrolled on the MRes programme at the University of Newcastle where I specialised in Toxicology and completed a project into the hepatic effects of environmental toxins. I am now studying for a PhD at the University of Southampton and am a proud member of the Immunometabolism lab led by Dr Jaswinder (Jazz) Sethi. Working with my colleagues and supervisory team (Jazz, Professor Chris Byrne and Professor Philip Calder), my BRC NIHR funded PhD project focuses on exploring the role of adipose tissue function in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
