After 17 years my personal cree for the safety ethos: Operate ethically as a leader, mentor, and subject matter expert. Tenaciously pursue to eliminate or decrease all negatively impactful incidents and metrics. Take an upfront, no nonsense approach to employee safety 100% of the time. Condemn nepotism, cronyism, the "good-ol-boys" network and ANY form of preferential workplace treatment. Avoid all unethical, immoral and illegal workplace practices. Holding all equally accountable and responsible. Safety is a personal choice and if one lacks faith in the axioms, the goal will not be met. Understand the differences of "safety indoctrination" and employee buy-in. Treat others as you'd like them to treat you. Be fair and unbiased in decisions. Always maintain an open door policy. Listen more than you speak. You're only as good as those who look to you for guidance. Remember to be human and approach solutions with logic. Just because it's policy, doesn't mean it's the best way. Practice what you preach!Adopting this credence is my daily operational goal. Nobody is perfect. No program is flawless.
