Transitioned the data analytics product from its roots as a self-service end user tool to an enterprise analytics platform suitable for large centralized deployments while also continuing to serve long time enterprise customers.· Contributed to revenue growth from zero to $500M annualized billings run rate in 2018. My team of PMs drove the enterprise business for Power BI and Analysis Services working with customers, partners and the sales field to identify and unblock opportunities. We worked directly with some of the largest companies in the world to ensure that they would be successful. My team represented our customers perspective and priorities to our developer counterparts. · Improved administrator NPS +XX pts under two years. Met the evolving needs of growing deployments to deliver on goals for customer revenue expansion and churn. I conceived and implemented a comprehensive administrator satisfaction monitoring program that enabled us to identify and resolve emergent issues, both at specific customer accounts and systematically.· Grew the PM team to 4 people and mentored other PMs and developers.· I identified new revenue generating opportunities and conceived a vision to address them. I presented that vision directly to executive leadership at Microsoft and secured funding to develop the vision.
Senior Program Manager
When I joined the BI group at Microsoft, it was attempting to make two strategic shifts. The first was from traditional centralized IT driven products to business-driven self-service. The second shift was moving the on-premises client server business to cloud PaaS and SaaS services. I worked early on these shifts driving major feature areas and entire product launches.· Conceived and launched a modern developer ecosystem from Power BI including REST and JavaScript APIs, OAuth authentication and a custom app platform which enabled 3rd party SaaS services to make their data easily consumable by their customers in Power BI. I grew a community of developers through multiple channels including an official partner program, speaking at numerous developer conference, blogs, appearing in videos and podcasts and launched developer portal (dev.powerbi.com).· To specifically target ISV developers, I created the vision and drove the launch of a new service in Microsoft Azure called Power BI Embedded. I worked very early on with customers to shape the vision and collect feedback as the service moved from private preview to public preview and then GA. The service launched globally with compliance offerings including ISO, PCI and SOX.· Drove the vision and roadmap for our on-premises enterprise BI OLAP product (SQL Server Analysis Services). To provide a friction free path for customers to move to the cloud, I launched another PaaS service in Azure called Azure Analysis Services. To accelerate adoption, I created the Azure Analysis Services roadshow, where I traveled to multiple cities giving a free one-day class. This eventually evolved into the Power Platform world tour which today offers a 2-day conference in 15 cities across 11 countries. These efforts have resulted in triple digit growth every year since the service was launched.
Software Developer Engineer
· I developed BI applications over petabytes of data generated by Bing and MSN. These applications served both internal business teams across Microsoft and Yahoo, they were also available to external customers purchasing search or contextual ads through the Bing Ads and Yahoo platforms.· I greatly increased the amount of available data to users while at the same time dramatically reducing costs by developing new techniques of working with Big Data which at the time was still a very new concept. This involved creating new platforms capable of working with these massive data volumes.· Pioneered the concept of data virtualization when working with Big Data at Microsoft. I created an internal whitepaper around Big Data and data virtualization and worked with teams across Microsoft to guide them on how to deal with their growing data volumes.· Managed a team of 5 developers and 7 testers in charge of developing BI solutions for Microsoft’s Bing and MSN business teams. When taking over the team, I changed their release and planning cadence from once every 6 months to once a month. Through this and other changes, I was able to increase the number of features that the team was able to release in a 6 month period from 35 to more than 90 and at the same time, dramatically improving the quality of the services we provided.
