Review renewal applications for National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permits. Reviewed applications of new and modified Confined Animal Feeding Operations (CAFO) to ensure they comply with the Clean Water Act (CWA), most of these included hydrology plans and calculations. The goal of the CAFO program is to ensure animal waste is used in a way that minimizes nutrient loading to waters of the state. Represented the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality at the CAFO Roundtable (an event that brings together the states and EPA to discuss issues and opportunities within the program).

Wrote air construction permits for industrial facilities.Conducted air dispersion modeling in order to demonstrate compliance with National Ambient Air Quality Standards. I have represented Nebraska at the EPA Regional/State/Local Modelers Workshop.Evaluated applicability and the requirements of New Source Performance Standards and National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants.Reviewed Best Available Control Technology determinations for the Potential Significant Deterioration Program. I completed one of the first greenhouse gas BACT determinations on an ElectricArc Furnace. Reviewed Best Available Retrofit Technology determinations for the Regional Haze Program.

Wrote Phase I Environmental Site Assessments. Assisted industrial facilities with solid waste and hazardous waste determinations. Completed air construction permit applications, air operating permit applications, and annual emission inventories. Prepared toxic release inventories.Conducted sewer line assessments surveys for municipalities and industry.

Assisted in research with on-the-go soil sensor technology. Developed a prototype for a pH soil probe with a washing system for field mapping using GPS coordinates. Tested the accuracy of antimony pH probes.

Conducted field work for studies in irrigation and fertilizer rates.Completed a 400 level, three hour engineering course on pollution prevention. Collected and analyzed information from data loggers. Presented results to classmates and members of the EPA.
