I am a Professor and Chair of the Department of Economics at the University of Mississippi. My research interests are at the intersection of monetary economics, public finance, political economy, and historical economic development. Within monetary economics, I study everything from historical monetary institutions to modern monetary policy to Bitcoin. Within political economy, I have used the tools of economics to understand revolutions, the decision to go to war, and how the national defense motive shapes the state and its policies and institutions.
