Designed and built an ionization chamber for future experiments. Simulations in Geant4 were used to optimize the geometry and various parameters such as gas type and pressure. To solve this optimization problem in multi-dimensional space, Bayesian Optimization was used to reduce computational cost.Built simulations in Geant4 for previous detector setups using CAD files to measure the efficiency and to better describe and understand results.Mentored undergraduate and graduate students.

Built and deployed fast and thermal neutron detectors to measure neutron backgrounds. Used wavelet analysis to obtain excellent pulse shape discrimination between low energy neutrons and gammas. Further improved pulse shape discrimination using machine learning and deep neural networks. Developed a Generative Adversarial Network to generate signals for realistic simulations.Performed the analysis of a commissioning of a new detector. This detector consists of > 1000 individual channels and generates TBs of data per an experiment. Complex methods were used to create and analyze images for every event. ROOT, GSL, Apache Spark and Hadoop were used to perform analysis on a multi-node cluster.Developed realistic simulations using Geant4 to assist in analysis codes.Mentored undergraduate students from across the country through the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) in the summers of 2016, 2017 and 2018.
