As a boy growing up, I was football football football. Playing, watching, you name it I was addicted, supporting West Ham United and my local side Chelmsford City. I always knew I never had the ability to make it as a footballer and somewhere along the line the idea of being a Sports Journalist came about. I have worked outside of the industry on 2 occasions. Firstly, as an after school cleaner at Chelmer Valley High School and secondly as an In-store team member at Morrisons. Neither roles were exactly what I was looking for but both gave me my own money and some useful insights. At both skills such as time management, communication and teamwork were key, and thus have helped me along the way. However my pathway into the industry cake in the form of volunteering at Chelmsford City FC, which I started in August 2022. From the start I was almost and arounder, the N’Golo Kante type if I were to compare it to a footballer. I chipped in almost everywhere and helped out where I could in terms of media. However, I was then promoted to Head of Media a little over a year into my time with the club. My first ever job saw me take on 2 hours of classroom cleaning at Chelmer Valley High School, where I had gone to school. This was a good way for me to start learning some key skills that I would need. For example the 2 hour time frame gave me no time to sit around and do nothing, meaning I developed and act for my time management. However, that lasted 7 months, following a decision to leave because of the lack of time I was seemingly getting after school. Following the conclusion of my A-Levels, I got a part time job at Morrisons, in order to build up some money before the start of my University studies. I was working until the early hours of the morning, which I didn’t mind, seeing as I was not in education. My role was part of the Price Integrity team, meaning I had to go round the whole shop and check every price label was correct, and print out ones to replace them if needs be. I was part of a team of 3, meaning communication and teamwork was a must as we worked into the night. However, following the departure of the past head of media, I was given the option to leave my role of volunteer role at Chelmsford and become the Head Of Media. At the start of my university studies, I decided it was a perfect opportunity, which I took. This saw me depart Morrisons.
