Lead Booker & Producer: Other Music PresentsOther Music Llc Jan 1999 - PresentGreater New York City AreaOther Music Lawn Parties @ SXSW (2008-2011):For several years, we organized an annual SXSW event. These sponsored, multi-stage, 2 day mini-festival events drew more than 10k fans each year and included artists like The xx, James Blake, Yo La Tengo, The Tallest Man On Earth, Zola Jesus, Sharon Van Etten, Dam-Funk, Jay Reatard, Wavves, Twin Shadow, Dum Dum Girls, Band of Horses, and many more. The Lawn Parties were also filmed and released for streaming as part of a sponsored web series. I also booked several SXSW events for Spotify in 2012, including Grimes, A$AP Rocky, Of Monsters and Men, Kimbra, Pond, M Ward, and SBTRKT. Other Music Presents (1999-):Over the years, I have produced various one-off club events, warehouse parties, and other concerts in the NYC area under the name “Other Music Presents,” including events featuring artists such as Iron & Wine, Autechre, Plaid, Vladislav Delay, The Field, Thomas Brinkman, Prince Paul/Handsome Boy Modeling School, and Squarepusher. Most recently, to celebrate our two decades in NYC, on June 26, 2016, I produced a farewell concert at Bowery Ballroom titled “Other Music Forever,” with performances from a broad array of artists, including Yoko Ono, Yo La Tengo, Bill Callahan, The Tallest Man On Earth, Sharon Van Etten, John Zorn, and Frankie Cosmos. The event was preceded by a street parade through the East Village, with second-line marching bands led by Matana Roberts and 75 Dollar Bill, and both the parade and concert were featured broadly in the music and culture press. -
Business OwnerOther Music Llc Dec 1995 - Jun 2016Greater New York City AreaIn December of 1995, at the age of 25, I opened the Other Music record shop on East 4th Street in Manhattan, a unique, taste-making shop in the heart of New York City, with a broad and ever evolving take on music, including indie, electronica, world, jazz, hip-hop, dub, folk, psychedelia, modern classical, avant-garde, and much more. We helped launch the careers of numerous artists from NYC and around the world, and also dug deep into the past to help introduce many incredible older artists to new audiences. The shop was lauded as one of the best record stores in the world by press outlets including Rolling Stone, Billboard, Pitchfork, Time Out NY, Stereogum, The Village Voice, The Guardian, and many more. As a founder and owner, I handled all aspects of the business, from floor management to buying, advertising, PR, special event booking and production, and much more. We worked directly with all of the important indie and major labels, our weekly new music update had a subscriber base of more than 35k, we hosted hundreds of live in-store performances from incredible artists, organized numerous live events, produced the “Live at Other Music” web film series, ran our own label, and much more. A few highlights are below. From our inception, we have hosted live in-store performances at Other Music, at the rate of 10-20 a year. I booked and produced all of these. Over the years, we have featured a broad array of talent, including seminal performances from artists like Neutral Milk Hotel, Elliott Smith, DJ Shadow, Vampire Weekend, The National, St. Vincent, Yo La Tengo, Courtney Barnett, Mac DeMarco, The National, Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks, the Breeders, Broken Social Scene, The Boredoms, Tortoise, Iron & Wine, and Tinariwen, to name just a few. Approximately 20 of these were filmed and recorded, along with artist interviews that I conducted, and packaged as a sponsored web series “Live at Other Music.” -

Guest Curator & PresenterMomaps1 Art Center Sep 2016 - Aug 2023Queens, New YorkIn collaboration with MoMA PS1, I conceived, curated, and presented the Come Together Label Fair and Music Festival at the Queens museum, on March 26, 2017. Come Together featured a label market with more than 60 diverse and innovative independent record labels (both well-established and truly DIY underground labels, not-for-profit labels, collectives, etc.) from a broad cross-section of cutting edge music producers and presenters, including indie rock, electronica, hip-hop, classical and avant-garde. There were also panels (including one on the history and future of DIY event spaces and culture in New York City), label-run workshops (ranging from ‘zine-making to virtual reality to social responsibility in culture presenting), a film premiere, and live artist performances (including Frankie Cosmos, Moor Mother, and Matana Roberts). Along with selecting the labels for the market, the curation process involved selecting and working with various participating labels (including RVNG, Ghostly, PTP & Luaka Bop) to develop workshop content, and working with artists to develop new collaborative content for their performances. The fair drew close to 2000 people, and will be the first of an ongoing annual series. -
Event Booker And ManagerFort Greene Park Conservancy Jan 2010 - Sep 2012Brooklyn New YorkFor three summers, I volunteered with the Fort Greene Park Conservancy, booking, producing and spearheading a summer music series. We hosted two events each summer, featuring artists including Charles Bradley & the Menahan Street Band, Shabazz Palaces, Antibalas, Dam-Funk, Red Baraat, Bilal, DJ Spinna, Reggie Watts, and more. The free events were produced on tight budgets, bringing in mobile sound and staging, with an all-volunteer staff. Estimated crowds were between 1k-2.5k, and we received great press in the arts papers, listings sites, NY Times, etc.
