As a senior engineer I mentored developers, worked closely with product, and pioneered solutions based on the changing needs of the company. Notably I helped modernize the existing applications framework for all site-based customer intake, mentored an engineer through the successful product development process as we transitioned to a new framework for household applications, and laid the foundation for channeling additional engineer momentum into assisting quality analysis with automation and hands-on issue discovery.

At Allstate we wore many hats. I built and maintained internal design and pattern systems in React, maintained legacy backends and apis in both Java and Javascript, and applied my database knowledge to existing MySQL systems. I helped advocate for increased standardization to minimize developer time and interface inconsistency issues and helped lay the groundwork for what would become the current Allstate internal pattern library.

In this position I was able to focus more heavily on front end design, consuming data from a number of sources in a variety of formats and combining them into a fluid UI that would allow the user to tune their display for maximal efficiency. The bulk of the project was Angular 2.

In creating Odd Waters I sought to provide development as a service, partnering with small and medium sized businesses who could not afford a full time senior developer with local talent who contributed on an as-needed / as-desired basis to the development collective.This project forced me to take a much more heavily client-facing role, wherein I both pursued potential prospects and addressed their needs on a project-by-project basis and maintained my presence as a developer within the company’s ranks.During this time I partnered quite heavily with other local studios as well as business social organizations, ultimately becoming a chairperson of a 20-year-old regional networking organization and making connections with many top firms.

While development at Campcite moved steadily onward, a small faction within the core development group sought to expand their talents by taking on a secondary project, creating a robust, easy-to-use system for event organizers and prospective attendees to discover nearby events based on the idea of high level, use-oriented categorization.Our focus on the casual user led to several iterations of the front end, which was developed in angular 2 and sass. The back end, which consisted of both a rest api and a series of crawling and categorizing routines, was written in Node.JS and MongoDB.Though the startup was never successfully funded following our departure from Campcite, I remain quite proud of my achievements here, having garnered substantial praise for my UI work from alpha testers and overcome numerous technical hurdles in gathering data to populate the platform.

Campcite was my first foray into browser extension development and considering how to integrate new UI features into existing websites. Highlights include a full PPC/PPM ad serving platform, browser extensions in three browsers with substantial code reuse, and a robust series of tools for creating and modifying slides.

I met with clients to establish project scope, assisted in design and user experience development, and ultimately constructed the back end systems for a variety of clients in a number of environments including Wordpress, Yii, Codeigniter, Laravel, C#, and NodeJS.

After working with Clubhub for just over a year, I was given the opportunity to refresh our entire organization, trimming off unnecessary members of our development team and ultimately redoing the entirety of our software in a little under three months. Where Clubhub was effectively little more than a billing dashboard for Volleyball teams, My Team Management became a herculean project, featuring customized web portals, ecommerce, scheduling, and of course, billing systems for a number of sports.The project was written in Yii and MySQL on the back end, with Knockout and JQuery handling our user interface.

My first actual engagement as a back end developer, Clubhub was a billing platform for volleyball clubs, backed by one of the largest clubs in the state. My initial performance was lauded by both the investors and my immediate supervisors, and my skills as a troubleshooter and developer moved forward considerably.During this time I gained significant experience working with our proprietary MVP architecture, even dabbling in creating one of my own, and learned to use Knockout JS.

I was brought into Gulf Media as a front end developer, converting Photoshop mockups created by our design staff into functional, vivid websites. During this time I created websites for brands like Enchanted Rock Vodka, The Texas Hammer, and Zales. Each website was created in HTML5 and CSS, and after being accepted by our client, would then be converted by me into a template for our content management system, which was written in PHP.Quickly my role expanded to include custom extension development for our content management system, and my outspoken nature and love of uniformity revitalized our internal discussions about process, design, and reusability.Within six months, I was tasked by our head of sales with creating a system for engaging our sales team with a large, animated billboard that would bring in data from our client relations manager and our VoIP service, challenging them to increase their call volume and closings by displaying their results in a tracked, ranked leaderboard. This initiative proved incredibly successful.My final task at Gulf Media was to create a live demonstration system for domain and content turnover systems, allowing our sales staff to, at the click of a button, place a small amount of client information on any one of our 100,000+ domains available for resale. This tool made the immediate turnover and turnkey nature of our product quite apparent to our customers, and resulted in a significant increase to sales.
