In May 2021 I graduated with first class honours from my football journalism degree at the University of Derby. It is my dream to break into the journalism industry, particularly sports writing - which is where I feel my potential has the best chance of being unlocked. I spend much of my spare time reading some of the best football writing from publications such as The Athletic, as well as writing about the club I support, Leeds United, on a blog with 5,000 followers on Twitter.The experience I have gained so far comes from my time at University, where I did work experience both in the office and from home for the Yorkshire Evening Post. My role there ranged from writing for the newspaper and website to writing roundups for their non-league football roundup whilst I was at university. I also did media work for multiple clubs local to the Derby area, including Leeds United Sports College, where I wrote match reports, provided social media coverage, filmed games/events and conducted interviews. Meanwhile, my academic work at university has not only vastly improved my writing ability, but also prepared me for a career in multimedia journalism, covering everything between print writing, online, video and radio. While I currently lack experience since my graduation from university, I believe I have a lot to offer to employers who are willing to offer chances to graduates, and that if I am offered the chance and environment to do so I will fulfil my potential as a sports writer.
