Explore and suggest innovative ways to access and visualize climate related content.Improve aggregation of key climate variables by relevance for sector-wide use. Analysis of data includes historical climate analysis, spatial distribution of annual and seasonal averages for primary variables and characterization of intraseasonal features (e.g., onset and length of rainy season, statistics of rainy events and dry spells, inter-annual variability, annual and seasonal averages, etc.), as well as other available climate derived variables.

Develop a Climate Risk Assessment for Togo for the Croix-Rouge Togolaise and the German Red Cross through research, literature review, and stakeholder interviews. Organize a workshop with stakeholders and relevant partners to discuss the state of Climate Risk Assessment, Adaptation, and Management in Togo and attempt to find potential areas for collaboration.My study was as a preliminary measure in order to develop a plan for anticipatory action before a humanitarian disaster based upon the ability to forecast weather and climate in Togo. Consequently, using interviews with the Met Service and the literature surrounding forecasting and prediction capabilities in the region, I was to assess the current state of meteorological/climatological forecasting in Togo. Eventually, the Red Cross would like to establish a set of Standard Operating Procedures that link specific forecasts and thresholds that trigger specific and least-regrettable anticipatory actions in order to reduce vulnerability to potentially impending weather and climate disasters.

Conduct research on the Great Plains Low Level Jet over the 20th century using various reanalysis data products in Matlab • Assess the seasonal cycle of the Great Plains Low Level Jet and determine an index to assess strength and inter-annual variability • Evaluate any potential seasonal link between precipitation over the Midwest and Southwest US and the Great Plains Low Level Jet • Use reanalysis products for moisture budgets to further develop the link between precipitation and the Great Plains Low Level Jet • Analyze indices of strength of the Jet in CMIP5 model projections to assess how the Jet may change in a warming world

Conducted independent research on Climate Change: Assessing the Hydrological Underpinnings of the Tropical Overturning Circulation • Utilized matlab, GrADS, the CMIP3 and CMIP5 models to address the strength of the Walker Circulation and the Hadley Circulation over the past century and the 21st century • Looked for a link between model measurements of upward/downward wind velocities to assess changing strengths in zonally symmetric and zonally asymmetric circulations in the tropics • Assessed the link between sea surface pressure and upward/downward wind velocities in order to find an observable proxy measurement for changes in the tropical overturning circulation in the past • Wrote a research proposal for a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant for graduate student study
