Josh’s humble beginnings started at Antioch College where he self designed a BA in Environmental Communications—a combination of print journalism, photography, and environmental science. The communications degree provided the perfect toolkit for building the breadth of experience he’s had since. Although trained to make a living as a writer, he was ultimately drawn to communicating with images and chose to pursue a career as a photographer. He worked with numerous ad agencies, design firms and publications shooting a variety of subjects before deciding to follow a natural aptitude for retouching. In 2005 he began focusing his professional work solely on image manipulation. The years of working in the studio and on location give him a unique perspective for problem solving both during production and after. His experience shows a wide breadth of both subject matter and scale. Whether working on a small, boutique project or managing a multi-year behemoth, Josh brings a viewpoint unlike most others in his specialty.Since then, he’s continued to refine both his skill and point of view as an artist working across photographic-based media. In 2009 he started writing again and produced a series of illustrated short stories as well as longer written pieces. He’s been a guest contributor providing technical pieces to industry publications as well as fiction journals. In 2016, in response to the age of fast production and lightning turnaround of the commercial world, he began working with film and historical processes for the first time in more than a decade. The painstaking and sometimes glacial process has allowed him to further hone his ability in the modern, digital world.
