Summer project work:Evaluation of the power of dark photon searches at the ILC - FIPS decays in the di-muon spectrumDescription/Brief:Description: FIPS (Feebly Interacting ParticleS) are proposed entities that can explain dark matter and the non-observation of such states at accelerators: The reason they have not yet been seen is rather than that they are too massive (the explanation of non-observation of SUSY), they are too feebly interacting to have been observed at LHC or LEP. Future e+e- machines opens up new ways to search for such states: while still having the same low-background conditions and known initial state as at LEP, the future machines will feature 1000 times higher luminosities compared to LEP. The project intends to make a study of the "dark photon" flavour of FIPS at the ILC. In this scenario, the dark photon does decay into SM particles, notably to muon pairs. The signal to search for is thus a very small, but very narrow, peak in the the di-muon spectrum. There is, however, no a priori position of the peak. The project contained one part which estimated the background rates, requiring full detector simulation. Working together with another student whose part was the generation of the signal, and fast detector simulation of it. We then combined the two and derived the discovery/exclusion potential of ILC for such a scenario.
Electrical Test Operator
Responsibilities:• Mechanical and electrical integration and test of communications payloads, from panel level, up to service module coupling. • Performed all measurements necessary to optimize payload RF performance including Gain Frequency (response), Group Delay, IP Return Loss and Noise Figure.• Connected test hardware (DC, Coaxial & Waveguide) to flight interfaces following company processes.• Maintained correct payload configuration requiring the sending of Telecommands (TC) and monitoring Telemetry (TM). Parameters to be monitored included current consumption by active equipment, and temperature levels from the payload Thermocouples.• Conducted extensive testing for quality and durability, including measurement of Radiated Emissions/Susceptibility, and Passive Intermodulation.• Required to make manual RF measurements in Ku and Ka bands up to 30Ghz of satellite payload sub systems using various test equipment including power meters, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers and signal generators.• Maintained high technical standards while performing test activities adhering closely to defined procedures.
