Hidden Savanna Farm is a family-run operation that takes a permaculture-informed approach to developing sustainable food production on our small farm. The centerpiece of the project is the restoration of about 10 acres of overgrown woods into a functioning oak savanna supporting livestock grazing and perennial food crop production. We currently raise chickens for eggs and meat, turkey, and sheep (for wool and meat).

Horn offers a platform to simplify development of lightweight and scalable voice, video, text chat, and screenshare-based collaboration experiences.

Interim and contract CTO services focused on startups with software products.

I was a core member of Trustwave’s senior engineering leadership for over ten years, with specific responsibility for all Managed Security Service (MSS) products including internal tools, customer premise appliances, and customer-facing reporting and support systems used by tens of thousands of users each day.Some of my key accomplishments in this role include:* Worked closely with the CTO to define, articulate, and guide implementation of Trustwave’s next generation platform for unified threat, vulnerability, and compliance services. I led development of the conceptual model that is at the foundation of this platform, which has been very well received by customers and analysts alike.* I led a broad cross-team effort to design and implement a customized managed security solution for an industry-leading partner providing large-scale secure satellite connectivity to shipping vessels at sea.* Primary Engineering lead on a large project to move an established appliance-based product to the cloud, allowing customers to use it with no on-premise equipment required. This product put Trustwave on CRN’s top 20 “Coolest Cloud Security Vendor” list in 2018.(role was a progression from VP Engineering section below)

Following Trustwave’s acquistion of SecurePipe, my role became more focused on Engineering. I helped integrate the teams and products I’d cultivated at SecurePipe into the Trustwave organization, and drove ten years of considerable growth and feature evolution in my product areas.Specific successes include:* Led all aspects of Managed Security portfolio product development during a decade of strong (> 10x) growth. Managed 8-10 direct reports across North America (each with one or more product development teams under them).* I obtained funding for and then created, staffed, and led an internal Operating System development group (TrustOS). Having a consistent platform across our wide product set reduced internal cost while increasing security, quality, and consistency of delivery. TrustOS positioned the company to move quickly toward cloud and VM platforms in response to market opportunity, while strongly leveraging existing appliance code bases.* Conceived of, designed, and architected our first cross-product reporting view, which also introduced a hierarchical view of complex (larger) customer organizations. This tool added significant value for our growing enterprise customer base.* Was involved in tech due diligence, product fit analysis, and organizational onboarding and integration of multiple acquisitions.* Conceptual architect and high-level design lead for proprietary device configuration management system used to efficiently manage thousands of customer premise security devices.* Responsible for DevOps and QA for the flagship customer portal comprised of dozens of applications deployed across hundreds of servers. I drove overall quality and velocity improvements in these areas during a period of order-of-magnitude growth in platform size and complexity.

I co-founded SecurePipe and drove its development as one of the first managed firewall services targeted at small and medium-sized enterprises. We bootstrapped and became profitable in our first year, then grew organically for a few years before taking a small VC round to accelerate growth, leading to more product breadth, a few acquisitions, and eventual acquisition by Trustwave. We were profitable on a recurring revenue model at the time of acquisition.I was responsible for all of product, software development, IT, and operations (customer success and security analysis) throughout this time. Noteworthy accomplishments include:* Built the IT, Development, and Operations teams from scratch to ~35 people.* Designed and developed key aspects of managed firewall service - log processing & review, at-scale authorization management, hardened OS distribution management.* Expanded operations to a 24x7 model to support the introduction of a managed IDS service offering.* Represented the product offering in interactions with key customer and partner prospects as the company found and refined its market fit.* Established and implemented policies & procedures to satisfy needs of a regulated target market. Led org preparation for successful SAS-70 type I and II (analogous to SOC-1 and SOC-2 today) assessment, and to successful examinations by the FFIEC.* Led technical and operational aspects of two successful acquisitions and integration of acquired products and teams.
