Profile bio

About Josh Kogot

I am a fearless and adaptable innovator motivated by hearing “That Can’t Be Done”. I thrive on learning new ideas and am always reading about science, philosophy, economics, or medicine. I have spent most of my career finding ways to use my expertise to help others. As an Army postdoctoral fellow and civilian, I worked in biodefense and biosecurity to find better and more stable ways to detect anthrax, botulinum toxin, and SEB to protect warfighters. As a Navy civilian, I started a biotechnology group from scratch and grew it to 7 people within 5 years. I lead the team across biodegradable polymer development, whole-cell sensors for explosives, environmental remediation, and biomaterials. In my recent private-sector career, I have expanded the scope of my research area to include modeling and simulations for battery development, bio-inspired swarming, antiseptic technologies, and personal health and wellness. I grew as a mentor and leader, having the opportunity to build a new team of simulation scientists and software engineers and push novel technology growth with rigorous standards and quality. As an early startup employee, I learned to be easily adaptable and proactive in developing new policies and strategies to help R&D growth in the company. I have been fortunate to work with tremendous mentors and have worked tirelessly to be a mentor and leader for others. I continue to learn and improve my conscious leadership capacity as I transitioned from a mentor to a team lead, a department head, and as the company's “Leader of Crews”, think tank teams designed to create and innovate the next great technologies across many disciplines. In my free time, I love to read and learn new things. I enjoy being outdoors, swimming, hiking, and hanging out with my furry and scaly pets.
