Evernote is a note taking service with over 34 million users and clients for Mac, Windows, iPhone, and Android. The Mac and Windows clients each have over a million users and the Mac app team won a 2013 Apple Design Award. Developed Atlas, a map interface for user notes, similar to a map view in iPhoto or Flickr. Write up at: https://goo.gl/Su6Tdi. - Wrote the map interface, an embedded web view in both Evernote Windows and Mac desktop apps. Used Leaflet, jQuery, and Mapbox tile servers. Optimized for native feeling performance. - Built custom designed world map. Used TileMill and an Imposm OpenStreetMap build to render 6GB of map tiles of the whole world. - Built custom geocoding data set, used to encode user's note coordinates and group them by city, state, and country. Unified open source data to provide translations for place names along with geo shapes.Built key parts of Announcements notification system which pushes news to Evernote clients on Mac, Windows, iPhone, and Android. It’s backed by an RSS feed. - Built client side embedded web view in the Mac and Windows applications. - Wrote enhanced RSS feed spec to include in app features like app install and auto login for the native clients from one feed publishing system.Created an api for javascript apps for the Mac and Windows desktop apps. Architected javascript to native bridge to enable javascript calls to client application from embedded web pages. The api allows javascript applications shipped with the desktop application to search for notes, open views in the app, and listen for events like note updates. Managed 2 summer interns and projects with teams of up to 8 people.

NextBus provides bus GPS tracking with arrival predictions to over 50 agencies including SF Muni, Boston MBTA, and Washington DC WMATA.Designed and built train management display for the Agence Métropolitaine de Transport (Montreal Transportation Agency). - The live updating display shows a quick overview of how their 5 commuter trains are performing. Managers can see train position, schedule adherence, and other details in an information rich display that gives an overview of the whole system. - Written in HTML5 and javascript, with data from JSON calls to the NextBus server. Used jQuery, javascript svg drawing, and underscore.js.

PowerReviews provides a javascript product review widget that appears on consumer retail sites including REI and Gap.com. - Developed a Flash based reporting system for PowerReviews’s 300 clients. Refactored client extranet system. - Co-developed “Express”, a self signup version of the PowerReviews product review system. - Integrated various 3rd party services including a credit card system; Parature, a customer service system; and eBay’s ProStores.

Fogdog Sports, at the time, was the leading sporting goods retailer on the web, with 30 million dollars in annual sales and over 500,000 customers. Fogdog IPO'd in 1999, Global Sports acquired Fogdog in December 2000. - Lead developer of ecommerce platform to manage order status, customer communication and credit card activity for every Fogdog order placed. - Developed critical parts of the Fogdog site such as Product Reviews, B2B purchasing system, viral Tell-A-Friend promotion, and search engine interface. - Led effort to move platform from C++ to Java. - Integrated and enhanced 3rd party programs including credit card and fraud detection systems. - Developer, with 3 other engineers and 4 other team members, of the project that led to a new round of venture funding and a relaunch as Fogdog.com in September 1998.
