My main function at Preston Machine, Inc. was to support the manufacturing process by providing control and management of production drawings, programming assistance for CNC machine tools, and to communicate with customers so that PMI can quickly and effectively provide customers with a high level of quality on products that they order. When customers need a unique solution to a problem I use my engineering knowledge and skill to design a solution for them. I then work with them to make sure that the solution meets their specific needs and they are satisfied with the results they get from the services of Preston Machine, Inc.

Measuring and Comparing the Performance of two Micro Hydro Impulse Turbine Impellershttp://wvutoday-archive.wvu.edu/n/2016/09/07/wvu-graduate-turning-green-energy-idea-into-reality-for-local-businesses.htmlThe goal of this research project was to measure the efficiency of two Turgo impulse micro hydro turbine impellers and then compare their performance characteristics. With the turbine mounted on generator shaft, shaft speed and torque were measured to calculate power produced by the turbine. The turbine was driven by water jets that exited water nozzles under pressure. Pressure head was created in the system by a large diesel powered centrifugal pump. Water pressure and flow rate were measured to calculate the power into the system. The power out of the system was divided by the power in to give a value of the turbine efficiency at different operation conditions.Part of my responsibilities for this project included:-Examined the requirements of the sponsor and created a test plan for collecting data-Modeled design of test apparatus and experimental conditions after actual turbine system-Performed heat transfer calculations to size water tank for resistance heater energy dump -Performed thermodynamic calculations to estimate testing conditions and performance of turbine impellers-Created various test rig designs using Autodesk Inventor (final CAD assembly contained over 800 parts)-Performed welding, machining, and assembly to build test rig at Preston Machine, Inc. (sponsor) in Kingwood, WV-Selected, purchased, and installed sensors appropriate for measuring the physical quantities involved in experiment-Conducted calibration of sensors to insure the accuracy of their output-Performed experiment designed to create thermodynamic efficiency map by varying motor speed and flow rate -Performed coast down test characterize loses in the test apparatus and examine aerodynamic properties of impeller

This graduate teaching assistant position was held in the Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources Freshman Engineering Department. Position provided me with an opportunity to fund my graduate research in engineering by earning income as a tutor, teachers assistant, and success coach. Some of my responsibilities as a tutor included:-Worked 8-10 hours per week in the Freshman Engineering Learning Center tutoring younger students in subjects Calculus, Physics, Statics, MATLAB Programming-Students ask for help on an as needed basis while tutors give them guidance and direction without giving up the solutions to problems-Made presentation on my master's research project so that younger students can attend and get exposed to research topics at WVUSome of my responsibilities for being a teaching assistant included:-Helping conduct in class projects and demonstrations-Advising students on in class assignments-Administering tests-Taking attendance and recording grades in online grade book-Grading oral presentations and providing recommendations for good presentation habitsSome of my responsibilities for being a success coach:-A success coach is responsible for mentoring students on academic probation from the previous semester-Responsible for meeting with 20 students 4 times per semester to talk about their academic progress and feelings towards school-If students gave the impression that they were not performing well, it was my job to figure out why and help the student improve and feel better-If students gave an indication that they were having social or emotional issues that were effecting their performance. it was my job to refer them to more professional sources of support if issue was beyond my capabilities

Worked to create production drawings for hydraulic cylinders for new customers and support the production floor when those cylinders were brought into production. Gained experience working with different departments such as production floor, management, safety, inventory management, and quality control to resolve issues and challenges that impede the production process. Also gained valuable experience communicating with vendors, suppliers, and customers for quoting, problem solving, and planning purposes.
