LinkedIn tells me I am an “Experienced Senior Sales Manager with a demonstrated history of working in the financial services industry and skilled in Banking, Sales, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Sales Operations, and Surgical Device Sales.“While this is all true and you can throw in some Sales Management, Business to Business Sales and Thought Leadership for good measure, its not exactly how I thought my career would be described when I left university. Almost 20 years ago I handed in my Honours Thesis in Respiratory Physiology and figured I was destined for a career in medical research, however I soon realised my preference was to make relationships with people, instead of lab animals. As I didn't want to move too far away from my passion for science, I sought my dream role at the time as a pharmaceutical sales representative, which after a few attempts I got. What a great training ground for a sales rookie and where I learnt a lot about the sales process, accountability and the importance of creating value based relationships. My passion for science was soon complimented for my passion for helping people and this become the basis for my 20 years, and counting, sales career. Having clients at the centre of my focus, embracing vulnerability, knowing my stuff and being authentic have all been great pillars to build my brand around and allowed me to be successful across unrelated industries. I mean if you can’t be true to yourself, how can you be true to your clients, and they with you.Away from work, my wife and I are busy raising, and being the Uber driver for, our 3 boys. We are an active family often found hanging at the beach with our Rhodesian Ridgeback dog, Harvey. I place a high importance on wellbeing as the foundation for optimism and high performance and as such have been know to do the odd Ironman triathlon or Marathon.Feel free to connect with me if I can be of any value.
