I'm the co-founder and CTO of Flats or Spikes, an amazing company dedicated to creating continual improvement for all of our amazing users!I have seen a lot of technologies come and go in my 14+ years in the software industry, and have had the pleasure of working with many of them. When I began development, everything was PHP and jQuery, the classic LAMP stack. I spent a fair bit of time working as what is now known as a full stack engineer.I was very lucky to have been fascinated by the various mobile platforms when they launched - iOS and Android, even dabbling a bit in Windows Phone 7, and immediately pivoted my career in that direction. Much in the same way, when Xamarin appeared on my radar, I jumped in right away. It captured my curiosity, and still does, although I haven't been a professional mobile software developer in some time now. In between working on web and mobile, I received a degree in 3D Graphics Programming, from Parkland College. While working with Xamarin, I began learning advanced platform architecture, which captured my interest tremendously, and is what I still love working with the most. Being able to leverage the scalability of well architected code, squeezing out all the performance possible, is what I find the most joy in.I was used this new expertise to move back to the backend, this time as a dedicated API architect and engineer, when I joined my good friend's startup, Agrible. Bringing a startup's codebase up to enterprise standards, profiling, reworking, and scaling it for massive concurrency was a blast, and very fulfilling. Some time into this role Agrible was acquired by the giant Nutrien Ag Solutions, and I experienced my first taste of integrating a company into another company, a merger. Building systems that synchronized and reconciled massive amounts of data was a very interesting problem domain, and extremely difficult at that.Finally though, I was lucky enough to seize an amazing opportunity, to become a co-founder of a company, and their Chief Technology Officer. At Flats or Spikes, where I'm presently employed, we have created an amazing, lean team that goes fast, and innovates daily. Every day I am able to draw upon my years of experience in many disciplines, finding new uses for old knowledge, which is very gratifying.
