Josh led all administrative functions of BiGJAWs Youth for Christ, a five county youth ministry organization, during an era of significant organizational change. Josh led the way in completely reorganizing the accounting function of the chapter, changing health insurance providers to save tens of thousands of dollars and implementing a new system of safety standards and training. The new accounting system allowed the organization to determine which ministry sites were self-sufficient and which sites were utilizing resources. This level of analysis had never before been available in the organization’s twenty year history. Additionally, new efficiencies and greater levels of transparency became the norm at all levels of the organization.The change in health insurance providers saved the chapter a great deal of money while guaranteeing that the small employer could continue to provide a comprehensive insurance plan to its employees. Finally, the safety training program served to protect the most important aspect of the ministry—the children and youth with whom they were trusted.Josh served on the Leadership Team, advising the Executive Director on business and operational changes including the reduction of a fleet of old buses, the restructuring of an ineffective fundraising strategy and the decision to sell the organization’s aging facility. All of these decisions were centered on allowing the organization to focus what it did best—investing in the lives of the 15,500 students in the region.

Filled the pulpit for local United Methodist congregations on an on-call basis. Josh delivered Biblically-sound messages and allowed the continuity of worship in the event the regular pastor was unavailable. Josh took continuing doctrinal and communications education to stay up-to-date on preaching styles while keeping rooted in the traditions of the past.

Josh served as an organizer and host for the Community Service Center's outreach and service events. The events promoted and provided resources for wellness, education and cultural enrichment. Josh partnered with local business leaders and non-profit organizations to provide access to health screenings, school supplies for youth and entertainment and education for families. Philanthropy was also a main focus of Josh's role with the Community Service Center. Thousands of books were collected for local elementary schools through book drives in which Josh partnered with local book stores, publishing companies and individuals in the community to provide educational and fun reading material to the youth of northeast Indiana. Hundreds of coats were collected in coat drives that paired the Community Service Center with The Volunteer Center to provide warm clothing to children and their families in need. Over 1,100 pounds of food were collected by the Community Service Center in a Helping the Hungry food drive which supported the Community Harvest Food Bank.Keeping in touch with the community was another critical aspect of Josh's role. Josh was responsible for keeping in touch with nine of the Community Service Center's surrounding counties through economic visits and communication with local officials. Additionally, Josh represented Senator Lugar at local legislative forums and in interactions with members of the community who phoned or visited the Community Service Center.Interns and high school volunteers played a critical role in operating the Community Service Center. Josh supervised those programs. He created weekly assignments for volunteers and tracked their time to report to their high schools. He created an educational plan for interns that included them designing and implementing a program of their own choosing.

After two years serving as a print buyer, Josh began transitioning to the finance team at DRG. His first projects with the department dove into the realm of inventory valuation. Josh discovered a error in the programming of the company's AS400 database which caused wide swings in DRG's inventory value on a monthly basis. This discovery led to a monthly role in testing inventory values and managing the organization's inventory reserve.An opening for a permanent role in the finance department saw Josh taking over the accounting and administration of the advertising department. He oversaw the transition to a new CRM/Work Flow system and on-boarded a new team of advertising sales representatives. Josh was a key contact for all new and existing advertisers. He approved credit checks and advertising content on behalf of the publisher. Special projects assigned by the corporate controller allowed Josh to explore the corporate side of the accounting department. He prepared significant portions of the organization's internal audit work papers and worked with the audit team to document processes and procedures. Josh also participated in the preparation of consolidated financials and tax filing.
