Quality Engineering InternPorex May 2017 - Aug 2017Biomedical Mold Release Spray - Design of Experiment- Designed experiment to understand the impact of a mold release spray on biomedical parts and their extraction.- Met about plans and findings with managers from across several departments.- Measured parts using SmartScope Zip 250.- Performed statistical analysis of data using MiniTab, including One-Way ANOVA.- Based on extensive evidence that the spray was a detriment to production, we were able to justify its removal, resulting in a yearly cost savings of $100,000.Company Wide Training Matrix- Created Training Matrix in Excel using Visual Basics for Applications.- Automated 80% of the current process, including creating & updating employee records.- Allows employee training records to be actively maintained in an easy to use database.- Ensures employees are up to date on training & clearly provides this information for audits.Carbon Filter Capability - Design of Experiment- Continued ongoing experiment to bring a carbon filter into spec for diameter, thickness, and airflow by varying mold's cavity diameter.- Measured parts for all 3 variables, and analyzed the data using MiniTab.- Found a cavity size that would bring diameter from 46% to 6% out of specification.- Provided suggestions and improvements for further investigation.Part Complaints and Inspections- Handled the audits of returned and defective parts using various testing methods and equipment.- Used ANSI Z1.4 and Z1.9.- Dis-positioned inventory in response to complaints while managing doc audits.- Managed 3 Lab Technicians who helped handle audits and sort / reworks.Additional Tasks & Projects- Investigated and created solution to ongoing mixed part issue with similar looking parts.- Gave weekly updates to departmental Vice President.- Updated work instructions for several departments to ensure they reflect current practices.- Gave Quality Orientation to new employees.- Familiarized self with ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 9001:2015.
