Journalism:I've been using inDesign and Photoshop since my junior year of high school to create yearbook and newspaper pages. I've also been a writer for that time frame. During my time I've been an award-winning writer, designer, photographer and copy editor. I currently work for The Topeka Capital-Journal as a copy editor for both the news and sports desk. My duties include designing front and inside pages, editing stories, writing headlines and posting stories online. I also design the Outdoors page in Sunday's sports section and frequently design feature pages like the Connected, Flavor and Midway sections. Public Relations:I was named Media Director for the Dick Vitale Comes to Washburn Committee in the spring of 2010. My main responsibilities were to write press releases, set up interviews with local radio and television stations and newspapers, edit videos for the lecture portion of the event and spread the word about the event through social media networks. Between a VIP banquet featuring such celebrities as Dick Vitale, Bill Self and Frank Martin and a lecture in Washburn's Lee Arena by Dick Vitale, the event raised $10,000 for the Coaches vs. Cancer program. Also during the spring of 2010, I was enrolled in Washburn's PR Campaigns class, which puts on the annual mass media banquet each year. I was put on the publicity committee for the banquet, and through social networking, tabling, flyers, posters, sidewalk chalk, videos and an array of other forms of publicity, we sold a record 144 tickets.
