Beacons North County is a non-profit organization in Carlsbad, California that runs high quality day programs for adults with cognitive disabilities. As a Tailored Day Specialist at Beacons, it was my job to work one on one with clients to identify their goals and provide them the support and encouragement they needed to achieve them. My clients came in with a variety of different goals including educational, occupation, and social.In addition to offering direct support to my clients, I was responsible for prepping lesson plans and learning materials, communicating with their support teams, communicating with the San Diego Regional Center, and updating their individualized service plans (ISPs).

As a Natural Living clerk I work alongside the team in the supplements department to deliver high quality supplements to our customers. I regularly help customers locate supplements, explain the uses of certain supplements, organize the department, train new staff members, and perform closing duties. Additionally, I regularly participate in trainings on specific supplements and brands to increase my knowledge so that I can better help customers.

Cornerstone Creative is a non-profit organization that runs a woodworking shop dedicated to serving all members of our community. The organization runs a job training program for formerly incarcerated adults, an after school program for middle school aged youth, and community classes that get the public involved and help support the organization. As an after school program volunteer, I was in the shop twice a week for a total of five hours per week. I was responsible for helping facilitate the after school program, making sure that students felt comfortable, were staying on task, and were having a good time. I lead students through several different woodworking projects such as making their own cutting boards, pressing their own skateboard decks, and restoring furniture. I worked alongside the organization's Executive Director to ensure classes operated smoothly and our students needs were being met. It was an incredibly rewarding experience, and I can not express enough gratitude for the opportunity to have volunteered at such an incredible organization.

As a private tutor I worked with students anywhere from kindergarten to 10th grade. Regardless of the student, my job was to identify their specific goals and provide them the academic support necessary to achieve them. I conducted in home and online sessions between 30 and 120 minutes in length. I offered resources to help students get more organized, worked on math, science, and reading concepts, and offered them a space to take action and reach their academic potential. It was a highly rewarding experience getting to see students gain confidence in themselves through our sessions.

As a member of the Board of Directors at Seaside Sustainability, I worked closely will fellow board members to develop, implement, and track the organization's goals. During my time as a board member, we successfully passed a plastic bag and polystyrene ban in the City of Gloucester, hosted two free documentary screenings for the public to learn about pressing environmental issues, and set the stage for many of the organization's current initiatives.

As a camp counselor at La Vida's Adventure Camp, I was responsible for collaborating with my fellow counselors to ensure the safety and satisfaction of campers between the ages of 10 and 12. Together we would lead campers in group activities such as swimming, canoeing, kayaking, high ropes, mountain biking, arts and crafts, and games. It was a great experience to develop communication, leadership, and group collaboration. A truly wonderful experience.
