Long before my career started, my interest in electricity was sparked by my grandfather. It started with a small circuit kit that had many projects from sirens to 7-segment displays and grew into two careers. As a journeyman electrician I learned the practical hands-on side of electricity (including what not to touch); how to run wires, prevent cross-talk, read codes, and how to have productive conversations with the authority having jurisdiction. This career lead me back to school to learn more about the deeper workings of electricity, control systems, and how to publish peer-reviewed articles.Now, I am a senior level control systems design engineer, still applying the lessons that I've learned along the way. I work closely with product safety and NFPA-79 AHJs to build safe products. I enjoy working with the people that build the products that I've helped design, to learn from their experience on how to improve designs.
