General duties: A Veterans Employment Representative I functions primarily as a Disabled Veteran'sOutreach Program Specialist, providing concentrated employment services in order to enhance theemploy-ability of disabled veterans; performs professional level duties in the areas of veterans' outreach andregistration, work history assessment, vocational guidance, employment planning, employ-ability services,referral and job placement; contacts potential employers and community organizations to develop employment,training and vocational enhancement opportunities.

AmeriCorps VISTA members are passionate and committed to their mission to bring individuals and communities out of poverty. Members make a year-long, full-time commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency. They focus their efforts to build the organizational, administrative, and financial capacity of organizations that fight illiteracy, improve health services, foster economic development, and otherwise assist low-income communities. A number of members serve in the summer months through the AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate program. The program offers members the opportunity to become engaged in community service through an existing AmeriCorps VISTA project for eight to 10 weeks during the summer. AmeriCorps VISTA is open to all U.S. citizens, nationals, or lawful permanent resident aliens age 18 and older. Members and Summer Associates receive a modest living allowance. Members who serve for a year also receive limited health benefit options, childcare, if needed, and other benefits. After successful completion of a term of service, members can choose to receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award or post-service stipend.

Candidates must be a team player with strong communication and interpersonal skillsDuties and Responsibilities: • Provide superior customer service and possess the ability to work independently and with individuals from diverse backgrounds. • Perform outreach and recruitment services under the supervision of a OVA employee• Answer telephones and give information to callers, take messages, or transfer calls to appropriate individuals.• Greet visitors or callers and handle their inquiries or direct them to the appropriate persons according to their needs • Manage paper or electronic filing systems, recording information, updating paperwork, or maintaining documents• Create, maintain, and enter information into databases.• Prepare or assist with the preparation of required reports to the Veterans Administration. • Operate office equipment, such as fax machines, copiers, or phone systems and arrange for repairs when equipment malfunctions.• Assist with the filing of documents, paper or electronic, in support of VA submission requirements. • Obtain proper paperwork from students utilizing the Veteran Intake Form. • Assist military-related students in applying for benefits and ensure proper enrollment certifications and status changes are submitted. • Participate in outreach and distribute VA pamphlets or other information about VA programs to VA beneficiaries or potential beneficiaries.• Verify student’s class schedules to ensure courses are VA approved in accordance with the academic advising transcript.• Assist the VA beneficiaries (Active Duty Service members, reservists, and eligible dependents) with any VA claim or related issue.
