At the time, this was the highest ranking lifeguard position in the City of Austin, working in tandem with a Recreation Program Specialist. Within this role I lead Lifeguard staff through the day as we maintain daily objectives. I intervene and support staff when tensions rise between them and patrons, I direct emergency response tasks, and make sure that lifeguards are staying diligent in the watch of their zones. Additionally, a high level of knowledge and competence pertaining to PARD polices, procedures; communication; and skill performance is necessary to hold this position as Barton Springs and Zilker Park are culturally and economically significant to the City of Austin.

Head Lifeguard/ Facility Managers are the most senior staff at neighborhood and regional aquatic facilities. In this role, daily operations of the pool are on you to make the appropriate decisions for how to run the facility and troubleshoot problems. A key aspect is knowing which situations require communication with supervisors and maintenance personnel, being able to have the foresight to anticipate logistical, technical, and staffing problems with enough time to remedy the situation so that normal pool operations remain streamlined and consistent.

Open Water Lifeguard at Barton Springs Pool. Advanced position requiring certifications in open water lifeguarding and emergency oxygen administration, as well as higher physical standards than regular public pool lifeguards.This position requires advanced knowledge of water rescue skills, first aid, and team communication. Open water guards are expected to be more independent and diligent due to the size of the facility and thousands of patrons. It’s routine to respond to an emergency, fill out paperwork, and maintain standard operational objectives while maintaining strict punctuality.

Lead a team of Park Monitors during the high of Coronavirus lockdown in Austin as they informed the public about the closures and modified operations to City of Austin Parks and Recreational areas and facilities. Due to the high amount of verbal conflict that occured as City employees informed the public about the closures of recreational areas and activities, Lead Park Monitor Positions were created to deescalate and mitigate those potential conflicts, facilitating a more beneficial conversation with the public.

Engaged middle and late childhood students in after school programming designed to develop community, further STEM exploration and identity development. Modeled appropriate behavior and discussed conflict resolution strategies for children.
