toward the end of my military career I worked for a headquarters element of a unit based out of Norfolk Virginia. The headquarters company was the support and foundation for our deployable units. The job I took on was the Logistics Sergeant. This would be the equivalent to an Executive Assistant to the logistics manager. At 22 years old this was a lot of responsibility, and a job above my pay grade. I was in charge of an entire barracks the size of a large hotel. Everything from occupancy to maintenance I scheduled, planned, and organized with detail and precision. At any given time I was In charge of 10-20 Marines and contractors to assist in the execution of maintaining the facility. That in itself is a full-time job as a civilian. However, along with maintaining the Marine barracks I was also in charge of the logistics and equipment of 6 units of over 40 Marines. This duty required me to have everything planned and orchestrated for these units training exercises and deployments around the world.
