My main role as a Monitor Support Technician includes interpreting and monitoring electrocardiogram strips (EKGs) and rhythms. I am also in charge of creating patient files and charts so that I am able to communicate with nurses and physicians on the current status of the patient whenever requested. I enjoy working alongside the nurses and patients as I gained insight from both the patient and medical viewpoints.

As an aspiring physician, I have noticed that there is a lack of representation for both students and physicians of color within the field of medicine. After learning that less than 3% of physicians are black men, I was not only inspired but determined to do whatever it took to increase this percentage by aiding my fellow peers within my community in achieving their goals and ultimately providing a path to medicine. This is the principal in which the goal of Future Black Men in Medicine was founded upon. Through my organization, I strive to foster an environment that provides members with information about all facets of medicine which in turn will assist them in achieving their intended career goals while allowing them to develop professionally.The purpose of Future Black Men in Medicine, is to inform and educate black men at the University of Florida about the various paths in medicine available to them that they may not have been prevued to. We are devoted to providing a platform in which we welcome those interested in any and all fields of medicine. Our mission is to support our members by equipping them with knowledge about various medical opportunities in hopes that it will allow them to not only achieve their goals but motivate them to continue to pursue their passion. We intend to create an environment in which we uplift and support the aspirations of all members within our organization.

My responsibilities within this position include but are not limited to, advising and educating students about the resources available to them through the university in hopes that they utilize them in order to maximize their learning experience. I created programs aimed to make all residents feel welcomed and at home through a variety of events which created a hospitable environment and an inclusive living community.

My time as a Student Ambassador for the Multicultural Diversity and Affairs Office (MCDA) provided me with the unique opportunity to serve as a mentor and advisor to many first and second year students while teaching them the history of the University. I coordinated tours and directed events that further informed students on the multiple areas on campus created to serve as safe spaces.
