Senior Software EngineerClark Associates Nov 2015 - Oct 2017Lancaster, Pennsylvania, UsClark Associates is the parent company of WebstaurantStore.com, a full-range online supplier to the commercial food service industry that generates approximately $1 billion in annual sales and holds approximately 80% market share in its segment. The site has experienced significant growth over the past couple of years and I joined the team as part of the organization's efforts to increase the capacity of the development group, improve the quality of the work produced by the group, and modernize the platforms and architectures used to execute the group's mission. I have been involved in a diverse range of projects spanning the full scope of site operations working predominantly with AngularJS, ColdFusion, MS SQL Server and memcached. Highlights include:• Lead developer in collaboration with the content team on a custom CMS to manage complex, rich-content product pages.• Lead developer in collaboration with the design, content and SEO teams on a comprehensive rebuild of the site's home page that significantly expanded personalized, high-engagement content while improving performance.• Lead developer in collaboration with the operations team on initiative to modernize the site's critical caching infrastructure and make it highly-available.• Senior member of the logistics development team primarily tasked with (1) leading the development of new tools in support of the complex information and operational needs of the company's Logistics department and (2) mentoring junior team members. -
Senior Web Architect (Contract)Rooms To Go Feb 2015 - Sep 2015Seffner, Fl, UsRooms To Go is a large regional furniture retailer operating primarily in the Southeast. This $2 billion, 7,000 employee organization operates a large suite of internally developed line-of-business applications built over the past fifteen years with a technology stack including ColdFusion, Microsoft SQL Server and IIS. As the functional complexity and user volume of this application suite grew, they began to experience crippling performance and availability issues as the system reached its breaking point with respect to scalability. I was enlisted to plan and execute the migration of this mission-critical application suite to a new high-availability system architecture. Responsibilities included:• Architecting and managing the deployment, configuration and tuning of a new high-availability hardware platform (virtualized, clustered and load-balanced) across independent development, staging and production environments.• Re-architecting a very large, mission-critical "Intranet" monolith into a suite of approximately forty functionally-independent applications.• Migrating this large body of newly-decoupled web applications from the old environment (Windows Server 2008, IIS 7, ColdFusion 9 Standard) to the new (Windows Server 2012, IIS 8, ColdFusion 11 Enterprise with multiple clustered instances) without impacting functionality or availability.I was able to successfully analyze, plan, execute and deliver this project in seven months. The new system architecture fully resolved the critical performance and availability issues that had plagued the application suite for an extended period prior to this project. -
Senior Full-Stack Web Developer (Contract)Custom Cable Mar 2013 - Oct 2014Tampa, Fl, UsCustom Cable manufactures complex custom fiber optic cable assemblies for enterprise customers like the major telecoms. I was brought in to build a secure, scalable, easy-to-use e-commerce platform that allowed the company to sell to anyone, anywhere, anytime. Successful completion and deployment of this platform was a milestone for the industry, as the complexity of the product and the corresponding complexity of the sales process had defeated all previous attempts by Custom Cable and their competitors to successfully develop and launch such a system. A few notable features of the project:• A sophisticated visual product configuration tool that reduced the complexity of product selection and configuration to near-layman levels and substantially reduced the need for the involvement of the company's engineers in the sales process.• An innovative data model driven largely by a carefully designed smart part number scheme that radically simplified the data problems associated with a product line comprising hundreds of millions of possible customer-driven product variations.• A powerful, flexible pricing engine that became the primary pricing tool for all operations company-wide, offline as well as online.• Automated backend integration with a very old, very brittle ERP system. The successful completion of this phase of the project was a triumph in its own right.• Seamless integration into the internal procurement systems of several high-profile Fortune 500 companies.• Integration with the Amazon.com third-party seller platform. The initial production release of this system was successfully launched after just six months of development. By its twelfth full month of operation, the site was generating monthly gross sales in the six figures and was on a strong trajectory toward seven-figure monthly gross sales. -

Full-Stack Web Developer (Contract)Fowler White Boggs Banker Jul 2000 - Nov 2001Fowler White Boggs Banker, P.A. (since merged with Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney P.C.) was a large regional corporate law firm with several hundred employees headquartered in Tampa. I was brought in to build their first corporate intranet. I had primary responsibility for all business analysis, project management, database architecture and programming, back-end architecture and programming, and front-end UI/UX design and production. The platform I built incorporated then-novel features such as integrated CMS functionality with advanced user management, a highly-modular plug-in style architecture designed to easily accommodate future expansion, tight integration with both Novell NetWare and Microsoft Active Directory systems via LDAP (which was still a very young and immature technology at the time), and a relatively decoupled architecture between the front and back ends using a custom-built JavaScript library that foreshadowed the technology we would come to know as AJAX.
