I spent the majority of my time with Doris on assignment at United Utilities as a Junior Project Manager working on a large Service Orientated Architecture Project (webMethods Upgrade).A list of my responsibilities were are as follows: Communicating important project updates with key stakeholders (such as Project Managers, Application Team Leads and Sponsors) in meetings, project stand-ups, and through distributing emails. I often chaired project related meetings, taking minutes and chasing up outstanding actions.On a daily basis, I used Issue & Project tracking software JIRA to track development of Interfaces and using the tool to retrieve data to be presented to project stakeholders. I also used Microsoft Excel to track and monitor the development cycle of Interfaces. The webMethods project successfully migrated Interfaces from the old platform to the new one. I tracked each interface life cycle in a spreadsheet that was shared with key stakeholders and all project team members.Another aspect of my role included co-coordinating approvals of High Level Designs and engaging with application support teams to prepare for testing of interfaces that have been designed, built and deployed to the System Integration Environment.Assisting and responding efficiently to customer and project requests such as creating United Utilities' Accounts, providing remote access to off shore project members, granting access to virtual machines and any other general requests the team may have, using specialised IT applications such as Remedy, and the staff intranet.

The role began as an unpaid year-long placement as part of my University studies. I was thenemployed on a paid, part-time basis throughout my final year of University as a result of my successful placement year. My duties included offering support to all staff, such as network maintenance, technical issues around IT devices in the school such as computer hardware/software issues, and general IT problem solving. I often ran after-school, and lunch-time activities for the children to participate in. This involved teaching 5-11 year olds how to use various computer applications at a basic level (such Microsoft Office and Scratch - a basic programming application for children). I also assisted with the videoing and photography of various school shows.During my employment with the school, I identified an issue with the efficiency of requesting portable devices. Therefore, I conducted a substantial amount of research into this, and based my dissertation on creating a successful application for booking time slots for the use of portable devices within the school. This application has since been used as a viable method of distributing portable devices such as laptops, iPads and iPods for use in classrooms. This could also be adapted to include other equipment.

Each of these positions were held numerous times over the course of four years in between semesters at University. As a confined space observer, it was my duty to monitor authorised entrants who were working in an environment with a high level of danger. It was of paramount importance that I ensured that strict health and safety standards were complied with by on-site workers.As a fire watch attendant, I was designated to a hot work project and was responsible for implementing measures to reduce the risk of debris catching fire. In the event of debris catching fire, I had sufficient training which enabled me to react confidently to defuse the fire, raise the site emergency alarm to alert the on-site fire service, and inform on-site workers to evacuate.
