About Joshua Risner
I’ve worked in the creative world my entire adult life. I began my career as a sign painter during the early stages of the digital revolution. During that time I taught myself graphic design and coding that eventually lead to me starting a graphic design and marketing business. As I turned thirty I went back to school to earn my bachelor’s degree in fine art, majoring in painting and minoring in art history. Immediately following I received a full-tuition scholarship to Kendall College of Art and Design where I earned my MFA. I taught painting for a year at KCAD and Hope college. I soon after landed at the Michigan State Capitol as the Master Decorative painter. After several years there I was made the artist in residence taking on more of an advisor role for all art related projects. I now hold both the artist in residence position as well as curator of fine art position where I take care of and promote the Capitol’s art collection. For the past 8 years I have also worked out of my studio, Rabbit Hill where I’ve taken on several high profile commissions like a portrait of former Governor Snyder and US Senator Debbie Stabenow.
