I am a broadly trained social scientist interested in the past, present, and future of human societies. Many, if not most, of the problems facing humanity in the 21st century will not be solved with technology (the preferred solution to problems that developed in the 20th century); if those problems (e.g. climate change) are to be resolved, individuals and whole societies must learn to manage information and risk to make better long-term decisions. I use computational modeling methods to develop virtual laboratories for experiments on social systems---with the goal of contributing to better understanding and management of related real-world societies.
