Joshua Wiebe is the Technology & Human Rights Fellow at the Center for International Business & Human Rights. Joshua’s work concentrates on current human rights issues arising from increased technological reliance and developments, including the increasing personalization and proliferation of fraudulent news. Based in Brussels, Belgium, Joshua focuses on European Union matters, representing the Center in European venues and reporting on important debates as they relate to the Center’s interests. Joshua holds a Master’s Degree (M.Sc.) with merit in the Management of Information Systems and Digital Innovation from the London School of Economics and Political Science and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) in International Relations from Vesalius College in Brussels. Joshua participated in a number of technology-related extra-curricular programs throughout his education. His most memorable experiences have been competing in start-up competitions focused on social ventures. In 2017 he worked on ‘The Constructivist’—a program meant to reduce the reach of fraudulent news, and in 2016 he worked on ‘btogether’—a social network meant to foster integration between migrants and locals.

Research, implementation, outreach, planning, coordinating tasks, managing teamWe are a group of Vesalius College students who have taken the initiative to make a difference and lend our support to migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers who have made their way to Brussels, Belgium. We believe that it is our responsibility as residents of Brussels to take a proactive stance, helping our brothers and sisters in need.We are currently developing a social networking experience, aimed at creating strong and sustainable bonds between foreigners and locals.
